The term ‘imaging equipment’ covers a multitude of instruments, from cardiac scanners to ultrasound units and radiography facilities. Imaging equipment tends to be towards the more high-tech end of all hospital equipment, and can therefore be very costly to replace if it becomes damaged or unreliable.

Most used imaging equipment can be refurbished and restored to full working order by skilled biomedical technician following a number of painstaking procedures. Most imaging equipment involves probes, leads and sensors, and these tend to be replaced as a matter of routine. All electronic circuitry is also inspected and any poorly functioning components are replaced. The entire unit is also cleaned and sterilized, and the housing replaced or cleaned to restore a pristine-looking exterior. Before a refurbished item of imaging equipment can be sold, it must be inspected and certified to ensure safety, accuracy and reliability.
